Shield Personal Safety Training is located in the Greater Los Angeles, California area where we provide in-person training on gun safety, pistol shooting, CCW, home defense, concealed carry, and personal safety & crime prevention.  We also conduct the California Department of Justice Firearm Safety test and issue California Firearm Safety Certificates, required to purchase or otherwise acquire a firearm in California.  Our business address is 1812 West Burbank Blvd #5440, Burbank, CA 91506, however we do not conduct business at this location. We rent classrooms and ranges at various locations in the Greater Los Angeles area, where we conduct our training classes.

Do you have a fire extinguisher in your home?  Most people believe that it's a pretty good idea to be prepared with one, and I would agree with them.  But did you know that statistically speaking, you're more likely to become a victim of a violent crime than a house fire at some point in your life?  In the same way that you prepare yourself with a fire extinguisher to stop a small fire before it becomes a big house fire, you should also prepare yourself with the attitude, education and training to deter and avoid violent crime before it even happens, and to escape, evade and if it becomes necessary, defend against violent crime if there's no avoiding it.  Our Refuse To Be A Victim® seminar is a non-firearms course that teaches strategies and techniques that can be implemented in your home and in your daily lives to avoid being a victim of crime.  These are important concepts for all people to know and practice.

Using the same fire extinguisher analogy, many people may decide that being prepared with a firearm as a defensive tool should also be a part of their personal and home protection strategy, and we're here to help with that too.  Check out our Education page for some great free information, and also visit our Training page for the types of firearms training that we would be happy to provide you with, from basic gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals and basic pistol shooting skills, to defensive pistol shooting skills and concealed carry pistol shooting skills.  We can provide California Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) testing and certificate issuance for those who need to get or renew their FSC.  For those who travel and would like to carry their firearm with them, consider taking our Utah CCW class.  The Utah Concealed Firearm Permit is one of the most popular non-resident CCW permits due to it being relatively easy and inexpensive to acquire, and because it's honored in approximately 31 states.  Take your Utah CCW training with us, then submit your application by mail.  Aside from meeting the training requirement for a concealed carry permit, our Utah CCW class also happens provide lots of practical information that every responsible person who owns a firearm for personal protection should know.

We were founded on the belief that firearms are very useful and sometimes necessary tools, but because of the inherent risks firearms pose, proper and safe use of firearms is absolutely essential, and that it's up to the firearm user to acknowledge, accept and take very seriously that responsibility.  Shield Personal Safety Training exists to help provide the knowledge and training necessary to properly and safely use firearms.

I believe that the most important keys to firearm safety are Attitude, Education, and Training.

Attitude

Having the right attitude towards firearms and firearm safety is where it all starts.  Without the right attitude, education will fall on deaf ears, and training will not be taken seriously.  Do you have an attraction to firearms because you think they will make you look cool or tough?  Or is it because you see them as effective tools for legal and ethical hunting, sporting or personal protection?  Do you think firearms are just fun toys to play with carelessly?  Or do you acknowledge that although using firearms can certainly be fun at times, they are very dangerous when used irresponsibly, and that it's essential to learn how to use them properly and safely, and to always put safety first when using firearms.  Always maintain an attitude of safety and ethics when using firearms, and while pursuing firearms education and training.

Education

With an attitude of safety first, people new to firearms would undoubtedly realize that they need to gain knowledge of how to properly and safely handle and use firearms.  For something as potentially dangerous as firearms, it's important to get proper education.  Our basic firearm courses, taught by a certified firearms instructor will provide you with the knowledge to properly and safely handle, use, store and care for firearms.

Training

Attitude and education alone are not enough to gain the skills and good habits of safe firearm use.  Hands-on training is essential.  It's hard to break old habits, so it's important to form good habits of firearm safety right from the beginning.  These habits are formed by repeated mental and physical actions and exercises.  Our basic firearm courses will carefully guide you through hands-on training and exercises to develop the good safe habits that should become second nature to experienced firearm users.

We want you and your family to be safe, and to not be a victim of crime, and we hope that you will take steps to deter and avoid crime.  And when it comes to firearms, we hope that you will choose to have the proper attitude, education and training, and that you will trust Shield Personal Safety Training to help.

God bless and be safe,
