California Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC)
NOTE: We provide FSC testing and certification service only as an add-on service to students attending one of our training classes. We do not do FSC testing by itself.
Firearm safety is the law in California. Every firearm owner should understand and follow firearm safety practices, have a basic familiarity with the operation and handling of their firearm, and be fully aware of the responsibility of firearm ownership. Pursuant to Penal Code section 26840, any person who acquires a firearm must have a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC), unless they are statutorily exempt from the FSC requirement. To obtain an FSC, a person must pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) written test on firearm safety.
Shield Personal Safety Training's Instructor Armand is a CA DOJ Certified Instructor, authorized to administer the DOJ firearm safety test and issue Firearm Safety Certificates. The DOJ FSC Study Guide can be found here. The cost for the test and FSC is $25. If you're attending any of our upcoming classes, you may be able to take care of your FSC conveniently after the class. If you're new to firearms, we strongly recommend getting proper Basic Training. We cover much of the FSC material during our Basic Pistol Shooting Class, so in addition to acquiring a wealth of knowledge and skills at this class, your chances of passing the FSC test will likely greatly increase if you take your FSC test right after this class.
